Monjya is a very popular dish in Tokyo. You can find a ton of monjya restaurants on Monjya Street in Tsukishima (a station on the Yurakusho Line or Oedo Line - Exit 7).
The name monjya comes from 文字 (mojo) meaning letters/characters (a form of writing) because back in the day, the kids would memorize characters by writing them on the pan with the batter. Who would have thought?!

It gets a bit crowded, I recommend going early at like 6PM to get a table.

■ Additional info about ordering
Before ordering monjya, I recommend getting a few 鉄板焼き(teppan yaki) items.
I usually get コーンバター (corn butter - i.e. buttered corn), ソーセージ (sausage), アスパラベーコン (asparabacon - bacon wrapped asparagus), and ホタテ (hotate - scallops) if I feel like some seafood 🙂
These come raw and you cook them yourself on the plate on your table.
If you're really hungry, you can finish off by ordering okonomiyaki, which has a much thicker consistency and is more like a Japanese pizza, except the ingredients are inside the dough as opposed to toppings on pizza.
OR you can get yakisoba (stir fried noodles) if you want something you're a bit more familiar with 🙂
If you don't know how to cook something, the waiter will show you how to do it so don't hesitate to ask 🙂
